Overview

The Rongai Route is the only trail on Mount Kilimanjaro that approaches from the north, near the Kenyan border. Known for its serene environment, lesser crowds, and unique perspective of the mountain, it’s a great option for those seeking a quieter Kilimanjaro experience.

Compared to routes like Machame or Marangu, the Rongai Route is less crowded, which makes it an excellent choice for trekkers who prefer a quieter, more solitary experience. It traverses the less-visited northern slopes of the mountain, offering a more remote atmosphere.

While not as lush as the southern routes, the Rongai Route offers its own unique scenery. It starts in the dry savannah and farmland, progressing through alpine moorland, and ends with the stark, rocky landscape closer to the summit. Trekkers can enjoy panoramic views over the Kenyan plains and an impressive sunrise view from the top.
